Hearing tests
Hearing health matters! At the first signs of hearing loss, it is important that you schedule a hearing test to understand what’s going on. We will assess, diagnose, and provide you with the best recommendations to ensure you continue experiencing the sounds of life.
At Clarity HiFi, we conduct full hearing tests and assessments:
• Otoscopy
• Audiometry
• Tympanometry
What can I expect with these tests?
OTOSCOPY
An otoscope is a device that uses bright light and magnification to examine the ear canal, tympanic membrane (eardrum), and the middle ear, revealing cause of symptoms such as hearing loss, earache, or an ear that feels full. This is a pain-free examination. Some patients with an ear infection may experience mild discomfort while inserting the otoscope.
AUDIOMETRY
An audiometry exam measures how well a patient’s hearing functions by determining the frequency and intensity at which sounds can be heard. There are few tests that are conducted in an audiometry:
• Pure tone test which measures the quietest sound you can hear at different pitches
• Assessing ability to distinguish speech from background noise
• Vibration test using a tuning fork or similar that can determine how well vibrations pass through the bone the patient’s inner ear
• No special preparation is required for this exam
TYMPANOMETRY
Tympanometry tests movement in the eardrum to determine if the middle ear (tympanic membrane) is functioning properly. By using a probe, air is pushed into the ear and the movement of the tympanic membrane is measured as it responds to changes in pressure.
There should be no discomfort experienced with this test.

Tinnitus Management
If you experience ringing or other noises in one or both of your ears, then you may be experiencing tinnitus. Unfortunately, tinnitus is a common hearing problem, mostly found in older adults. It’s usually caused by an underlying condition, such as age-related hearing loss, an ear injury or even a problem with the circulatory system. The symptoms can come and go or be long-lasting. For some, tinnitus can improve with treatment of the underlying cause or through tinnitus management programs.
Common signs of tinnitus include:
- Ringing
- Buzzing
- Hissing
- Humming
- Roaring
- Clicking
